The Red Dragon
Revelation 12:3–8
December 6, 2015

Introduction:

I. A second sign: a red dragon. Revelation 12:3

     A. The dragon identified. Revelation 12:9; Psalm 74:13–14; Isaiah 27:1

     B. Seven crowned heads and ten horns. Revelation 12:3, 13:1; Daniel 7:7

     C. One-third of the stars are cast to earth. Revelation 12:4, 8:8–12; Daniel 8:10

II. He stands ready to devour the child. Revelation 12:4; Genesis 3:15

III. Warfare and a decisive defeat of the dragon. Revelation 12:7–8

Conclusion:

Questions for reflection:

  • What were ways that the dragon futilely attempted to thwart the promise of Genesis 3:15 and the first advent of Christ? What does this redemptive history tell us about God and how He operates on behalf of His people?
  • What is the value of remembering that “the enemy is the enemy?” (Ephesians 6:12)
  • How might the knowledge that the dragon has been decisively defeated serve to encourage and fortify believers as they continue to do battle with the evil one?
