Topic: Other Scripture: Judges 6:11–6:23

Where Are You God?
Judges 6:11-23
April 30, 2017

Introduction:

I.    Gideon is presented to us as the new Moses. Judges 6:12, Exodus 3-4

II.    Where is the God of wonders? Judges 6:11-13, Psalm 13:1-2, Zechariah 1:12

III.    God’s great promise: “The Lord is with you.” Judges 6:12, 16

IV.    Two interesting contours of faith development.

         A. The Israelites at the time of the exodus and wilderness wandering.

         B. Joseph in Egypt. Genesis 50:20

V. The evidence of God’s favor: He sends a deliverer. Judges 6:14, Romans 5:8

Questions for reflection:

  • Have you experienced a time in your life when it seemed like God had forsaken you? How does the Bible address this existential question?
  • What does it mean that “God is with you”? What is it that makes this promise hard to believe?
  • How can we begin to practice the presence of God?
