“Putting Out a Fleece”
May 14, 2017
I. Gideon receives the Spirit of the Lord. Judges 6:33-35, Acts 2:38, Psalm 51:10-11.
II. View #1: The fleece reveals Gideon’s weak and immature faith. Judges 6:36-40,
Deuteronomy 6:16, Matthew 12:39.
III. View 2: The fleece points back to Moses.
A. It recalls the two-fold sign given to Moses at the burning bush. Exodus 4:1-8.
B. The fleece is likewise a sign of reversal with symbolic meaning. Judges 6:36-40.
C. It points to another two fold sign of reversal to come.
Questions for reflection:
- What does it mean to be filled with the Holy Spirit?
- What is the needed prerequisite to experiencing the sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit?
- How does God reveal His will to us? What is the ultimate two-fold sign of reversal that God has performed to confirm his promises to us?
